Acupuncture and Assisted Reproduction

Acupuncture has an important role to play in fertility challenges generally and as a support treatment to western fertility technology. Several research studies have confirmed the positive outcome Acupuncture can have on an IVF cycle. TCM says that a dynamic balance between yin and yang must be nurtured to support conception, implantation and a healthy pregnancy. The condition and smooth flow of Qi though the body is also an essential factor that must be considered, and if need be balanced.

By addressing these imbalances Acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus and ovaries; optimising function and increasing the receptiveness of the endometrium.

Acupuncture can be used in the lead up to an IVF cycle or ART procedure (like an insemination) aiming to positively influence the function of the uterus, ovaries and sperm (to produce more follicles, better egg quality and strong swimmers) - as well as balancing body systems, hormone function and menstrual cycles to increase your chance of success.

During an IVF cycle Acupuncture can decrease stress, improve body function and support the IVF process, with regular, flexible treatment to fit in with the cycle protocol.

If you have already started your IVF cycle and have not been able to have any previous treatment, Acupuncture at key points in the cycle will still be of benefit; the most important being the day of transfer.
