IVF FAQ

A slightly different treatment protocol is adopted for IVF treatment so we can align ourselves with research that has been undertaken and provide the most effective support at this time.

How many treatments will I need and when should I start?
Ideally Acupuncture treatment will be administered on a weekly basis for at least one full cycle starting from the beginning of a period. Allowing individual imbalances to be addressed and optimal function promoted. Treatment is also given at ovulation, and then two Acupuncture treatments are administered on the day of embryo transfer (before and after). A further session is recommended 3 -5 days after the transfer.

If you are beginning your IVF cycle and haven’t been able to have any previous treatment, Acupuncture on the day of transfer will still benefit your chances of a positive outcome.
If a positive result is received we encourage weekly Acupuncture treatment in the first trimester to support the pregnancy.

Why do I need two Acupuncture treatments on transfer day?
All of the current research shows that an increase in pregnancy rates is achieved when two treatments are administered on the day of embryo transfer. If it is impossible for you to have two treatments one treatment will still benefit your chances.

Should I have Acupuncture before or after my egg collection?
We recommend that you should come in for treatment the day after egg collection. This is the most invasive procedure of the IVF process and can leave women feeling tender and bloated and occasionally in considerable pain. Acupuncture helps to relieve the discomfort and swelling, and helps to calm the tissues in the area. This treatment helps to prepare your uterus that will soon be home to your embryo.
