What is Infertility?

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive for 12 consecutive months. Although the word infertility has a final ring, it is not the end of the road by any means. It is more accurate to describe the problems that many people face in conceiving and holding a pregnancy as being due to a condition of sub-fertility, which in simple terms means that the reproductive system is functioning below optimal. A program of acupuncture and herbal pre-conception care is highly effective in helping women with sub-fertility.

Who can benefit from acupuncture for their fertility?

  • People who have no fertility complications, but would like to provide the best possible start for their children
  • People with unexplained fertility issues
  • People who have been trying to conceive for some time without success
  • People who are using assisted conception techniques such as IVF, ICSI, and IUI who wish to improve their chances of successful conception

Trying to fall pregnant can be a stressful time – especially if things are taking a little longer than expected. Acupuncture has been proven to relieve stress and anxiety, increase blood flow to the organs and calm the mind. We feel at Acupuncture East that stress management has a key role to play in fertility, conception and early pregnancy management.
