About Acupuncture

Acupuncture works in harmony with the body to achieve homeostatic balance; the body’s natural, well state. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a history of clinical experience that spans several thousand years. It is upon this solid foundation of knowledge and clinical practice that the theories of Acupuncture have developed. One of the fundamental concepts is the idea of Qi or energy. Qi flows through a number of channels on the body and it is the manipulation of or 'tapping into' these channels with Acupuncture needles that produces a therapeutic effect.

A disharmony of Qi eventually results in signs and symptoms of a physiological, emotional or psychological nature; with fine needles inserted into very specific acu points we assist the body redirect the flow of qi to achieve a natural well state.

This holistic approach and an individualised diagnostic system is the reason Acupuncture is so effective in treating such a broad range of conditions. The idea of balancing the energy of the whole body as a system also explains why a pain in your back is often treated with a point on your foot!

Acupuncture is also used as a powerful preventative medicine that tackles imbalances in the fundamental energy systems of the body before they manifest into signs and symptoms.
